In Ljubljana and its surroundings, there are a lot of recreational possibilities in the open air and also numerous destinations ideal for a short trip from Ljubljana.
Tivoli, the largest park in Ljubljana, lies below the wooded slopes of Rožnik and Šišenski hrib, two hills literally criss-crossed by recreational trails. From Sweethome apartment you will be in Tivoli in couple of minutes. It is the great place in summer to escape from the hot concrete of the city. The same is true for the Golovec Hill on the other side of the city.
The unique Path of Remembrance and Comradeship (PST) is one of the most interesting particularities of Ljubljana. This original monument encircles the city and is 33 kilometres long. It is dedicated to the lasting remembrance of the occupation and the resistance movement during World War II. The path runs along the course of the barb wire fence, which was a military blockade intended to prevent the contacts between the city and its hinterland. Today the Path is full of joggers, families with small kids and dog owners.
Other popular trips around Ljubljana include hills such as Šmarna gora, Katarina and Kurešček, the artificial lake Zbiljsko jezero, where you can go for a romantic walk or hire a rowing boat, the picturesque Iški Vintgar Gorge and the Volčji Potok Arboretum, which is the largest botanic garden in Slovenia.
